When a Trunk Lockout Is More Complicated

Most trunk lockouts resolve quickly. However, some situations add complexity. Power liftgates (found on most modern SUVs and crossovers) have a latch that is electronically released, meaning the standard mechanical bypass does not work -- you need to access the vehicle electrically or through a door. If the trunk contains your only set of keys and the doors are also locked, we treat the situation as a full vehicle lockout -- opening a door first to access the interior trunk release or the key fob.
